Suzuki Family Music Classes for babies/toddlers ages 0-4 and their parents
In our Dolce Babies Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE) classes, we create a nurturing environment where babies and toddlers (ages 0–4) develop patience, turn-taking, sharing, and cooperation—all while joyfully singing, dancing, and making music with their parents. From the very beginning, musical skills are cultivated with a focus on quality, excellence, and good character development.
Try your first class for free! Contact us to reserve your spot in an upcoming session. Wear comfortable clothing for dancing, moving, and sitting on the floor. Please be prepared to remove your shoes and your child’s shoes. Come ready to make joyful music with your child!
At first, your child may take time to adjust to the new environment and new people. It’s completely normal for them to observe more than they actively participate. There’s no need to worry—children learn just as much by watching as they do by doing. Most importantly, true learning only happens when they feel calm and secure.
Our curriculum is based on the Seven Concepts of the Suzuki Philosophy:
1. Every Child Can Learn
2. Ability Develops Early
3. Environment Nurtures Growth
4. Children Learn From One Another
5. Success Breeds Success
6. Parental Involvement is Critical
7. Encouragement is Essential

FAQ
Our classes are designed for a one-to-one parent-child pairing, as many activities are partner-based. We encourage families with multiple children to arrange for another adult—such as a grandparent, relative, or nanny—to attend with their other child. We understand this may not always be possible, and we will do our best to support parents with multiple children in class.
Yes! We welcome parents, grandparents, and even older siblings to join in our family-style music classes.
Our curriculum features a variety of short, engaging activities designed to recapture your child’s attention and gradually extend their focus as they become familiar with the repertoire. Over time, children naturally develop the ability to enjoy the entire hour of class.
It’s completely normal to feel that way! However, our classes are designed specifically for young children, and our experienced teachers create a welcoming environment where all children can learn and grow. We focus on developing the foundational skills needed for learning in a class setting, so children are not expected to arrive already knowing how to navigate a structured environment. We expect movement, curiosity, and even a little unpredictability, and our experienced teachers create a supportive environment where all children can grow at their own pace. We will share strategies to help you support your child as they learn to self-regulate during those inevitable moments. We’d love for you to join us and see how your child engages with the class!
It’s perfectly okay if your child does not actively participate right away—watching and absorbing are valuable parts of their development. They are always learning through observation, and true learning only happens when they feel calm and secure. We never pressure a child to participate; instead, we trust that when given the space they need, they will join in happily and confidently in their own time.
We encourage parents and children to begin observing private or ‘master class-style’ lessons, sometime between age 3 and 4. Your teachers can help you with selecting an instrument and scheduling times to observe lessons. We hope that you will continue music study. It’s a wonderful experience that brings a lifetime of joyful music-making.

Lessons
Our lesson program is a complete, well-rounded musical education focused on playing an instrument. A weekly private lesson, master classes, Suzuki group class where students play together in an ensemble setting, instruction in written and aural music theory, solo and group performance opportunities are all included in the program. In lieu of a private lesson, some students may opt for a weekly ‘master class-style lesson’ consisting of a small group of 2, 3, or 4 students in a semi-private lesson setting.
Parents are a vital part of lessons and classes. We consider the parent to be the ‘home teacher’. One parent will attend lessons with the student, receiving instruction from the teacher on how to help the student practice at home. The role of the parent changes as the student grows and matures. A four-year old beginner will need a different level of parent involvement than a 16 year old who has been playing for many years.
Siblings who are both studying an instrument are encouraged to have back-to-back lessons or to share a lesson time slot to take advantage of the opportunity for learning by observation.

FAQ
Yes! You’re rarely too young and never too old to learn an instrument! While many people associate Suzuki with young children, the Suzuki philosophy is a wonderful and enjoyable way for adults of any age to develop their musical skills.
If you, as the parent, are ready to commit to creating a positive learning environment and supporting your child through the process, then your child will be ready. Ages 3 to 4 are a wonderful time to begin instrumental lessons, but there is no age limit—it’s never too late to start!
Yes! Group class is an integral part of the program. Your child benefits from a peer group to make music friends, while parents gain a supportive community as well. Group classes are essential for developing ensemble skills, learning music theory, and preparing for group performances. Plus, celebrating together with occasional parties makes the learning experience even more enjoyable!
No. Before purchasing an instrument, please speak with your teacher. We have preparatory activities and exercises for beginning students before they get an instrument. To ensure you choose the right size instrument for your child, we will guide you through the selection process, helping you avoid the time and expense of returning an instrument that isn’t a perfect fit.
We offer both in-person lessons and online options. Lessons via Zoom or FaceTime can be a great resource on days with inclement weather or when extenuating circumstances prevent in-person attendance.

Texas-Style Fiddling
Texas-style fiddling is a part of our group class repertoire and can be added to your private lessons too. We typically hold fiddle jam sessions on Mondays right after our group class, and these sessions are open to everyone—regardless of age, experience, or instrument. With our ‘dual-delivery’ system, you can join us in person or online at the same time.
We welcome players of the violin, fiddle, viola, cello, bass, guitar, mandolin, and more—if you can play it, we invite you to join our circle. We are jamming Texas-style sometimes with a little Western Swing for fun, just like Bob Wills did, Deep in the Heart of Texas. We’ll Boil The Cabbage, and take a spin to Tennessee Waltz with L’il Liza Jane before we get those Milk Cow Blues and have to head on home.
Our yearly Fiddlepalooza! Workshop focuses on fiddling and fun. Check out our events page to register.

Sharing the Joy of Making Music at Home and On The Road
Each Dolce Strings Touring Ensemble Series begins with a full-day intensive workshop, taught by our expert faculty, followed by local concerts at exciting venues and out-of town tours. More than just an advanced group class, students have the opportunity to develop new leadership skills in a close-knit environment, expand their knowledge of musical styles, meet students from Suzuki programs in other cities, and engage with the greater Houston community through their music. Suzuki violin, viola, cello and bass students, at least age 13 and in grades 8 and up, currently studying in Suzuki Book 5 and higher are encouraged to audition for this exclusive touring ensemble.
